FROM THE EDITOR...

In an ever-changing world, it is incumbent on all to try and stay current with these changes. In this issue, Stig Skarborn writes on the important changes to CSA Standard W47.1.

Users of heavy W36 beams will note that AISC has announced changes to 13 sections that were formally W36x16 sections. See What’s Cool, What’s Hot, What’s New.

Many excellent students in both engineering and architectural programs across Canada have benefited from CISC and SSEF scholarships, co-op and competition programs. We congratulate all the 2005 winners in this issue.

Proper design for high seismic zones is the focus of the YVR article, on page 8, and its use of steel moment frames using reduced beam sections. Learn of the advantages from the design team in this article.
